“Unsung Hero Award” 2015

On April 22, Grünenthal USA hosted its annual “Pain Networking Event” at the Liberty Science Center, New Jersey. The networking event brought together patients, patient advocates, physicians, nurse practitioners, medical educators, and researchers who are passionate about the improvement of pain management.

The highlight of the evening was the announcement of the Unsung Hero Award for 2015 which was awarded to Jan Favero Chambers, founder of the National Fibromyalgia & Chronic Pain Association.

The “Unsung Hero Award” is given to an individual who has made significant contributions to advance the social awareness of pain and suffering for those living with chronic pain. Nominations for the award were solicited from attendees of the previous year’s event. The criteria for the award are: relevance, impact, innovation, scope of outreach and commitment related to pain awareness, improvements and advancements in pain policies.

Quoted from the nomination letter, “No one does more to champion the needs of people in pain.” Jan has built awareness of fibromyalgia and chronic pain through the establishment of her organization, publishing bi-monthly magazines for fibromyalgia and chronic pain, serving on various boards such as Leadership Advisory Council of State Pain Policy Advocacy Network (SPPAN) – American Academy of Pain Management, promoting development & recruitment of other organizations to the Consumer Pain Advocacy Task Force (CPATF) – support of National Pain Strategy. She developed Leaders against Pain, supporting smaller advocacy groups world-wide, and served on federal panels on opioid medication, addiction and patient access to pain care.

Please join us in congratulating Jan Favero Chambers as recipient of the “Unsung Hero Award” for 2015.
